The Resident Evil Trailer looks INSANE + Favorite Shots
INT. OFFICE - DAY
(excited)
What's Good Everyone,
So, the much anticipated teaser trailer for Zach Cregger's "Resident Evil" Dropped today and man... Even with the description given at cinema-con, it STILL blew me away.
First things First, Check out my reaction to the trailer below
CUT TO:
As you can see, I'm HYPE. All my thoughts are in the video but what I didn't talk about (& what I reserve my blog for) is the cinematography. There's something so eerily haunting about zombies x snow & Cregger planted that flag with his chest!
CUT TO:
Now, this shot in particular isn't anything amazing, but I think opening the trailer with this shot puts us in a place of isolation immediately. It's a nice way to set the tone.
I also like how realistic night time feels and looks in all the footage. I had to brighten all of these screenshots for more visibility by appreciate the authenticity of real darkness. Yet again, doubling down on isolation with this super wide shot of an eerily empty farm land. This is so beautifully creepy!
I've got no idea who this is but a shot like this is a dead giveaway, it ain't nothing good. I love the controlled use of light to have the blue hue directly on this thing, to silhouette the weird shape of its body.
THIS SHOT.... Smh. Out of all the sequences in the teaser, this is the one that made me audibly let out a gasp in terror. The arms coming from the darkness already surprised me, but the legs (specifically the ones at the top) legit shook me to my core. This is the first time I've ever seen something like this in a zombie movie & I LOVE IT!
I love the classic red windows with hands pressed against them, in the background. I feel like all zombie movies have a shot like this in them somewhere & its cool to see it played a small detail rather than being a focus point.
Another great use of controlled light to to up the creep factor. Having a police vehicle flipped upside down is a sign that things have definitely gone wrong.
You can't have a zombie flick without a blood drenched shot but what's more interesting is... WTF happened and WTF is THAT? That's what makes Cregger so perfect for a franchise like this because he has a wild imagination within the genre. What better way to explore that than with franchise that thrives off that as well!
I LOVE how you can't really see what's up there besides the snow falling from some sort of movement. It makes this shot that much more scary because it's obvious, whatever is up there is preying on our vantage point.
This was also the craziest portion of the teaser. Zombies so blood thirsty, they're jumping from a roof thinking that's the quickest way to attack the protagonist. This reminds me of how the infected were in World War Z & the fact that this dude is facing them alone makes this even more intense.
So, boom, boom (Sorry. Been watching too many J.Cole Interviews). Here's an entire post both visual and text dedicated to my feelings about this new Resident Evil movie. I cannot WAIT for this joint! Let me know in the comments what you thought & as always, thanks for reading. ✌🏾
