Birds of Prey: The 1 Year Anniversary!

Birds of Prey Released in theaters. I Watched again last night and I firmly say that I still enjoy this film Just as much as I did the first time and my initial review stands the test of time:

Now that I have seen it, I can elaborate more on things I loved (outside of the action/score because those are pretty obvious & mentioned in the reveiw) and also add on to what makes me enjoy this film so much.

1. Cinematography

This movie is beautifully shot to say the least. I posted a few stills of Gotham on my twitter recently but refrained from stating which film they came from & a few people assumed it was some "indie flick." Crazy to know that this was in fact a comic book movie, which is a rarity.  The blocking, framing, & color choice paired with set design all do a stellar job of telling a story in a single frame.

The scale of this shot makes us understand the damage Harley is capable of doing and holy moly.

Love the framing of this shot.

A guy wearing a mask, in a room full of masks with masked figures painted on the wall speaks to who Roman is at this moment.

I gawk at this shot every time. That angle is superb.

I pair these 2 shots together because they're in the same location, yet they feel very different because of the way the scenes are lit.

I Love the vibrant color choices as well.

This is the money shot right here. Excellent use of vfx to enhance a sequence.

2. Gotham feels dangerous yet, NORMAL.

We get the grittiness of Gotham, but we also get another side of the city that feels like any other large metropolitan area where people also live normally.

Late Night Taiwanese spot (Which sounds good right about now).

This Club looks LIT AF

Friends grabbing tacos and margaritas.

Grocery shopping.
This is when S*** gets too real. You ever crave something so bad and when you get it, it either sucks or worse, YOU DROP IT. Pain, Agony, Anger... Everything Harley expresses in this scene is real as it gets.
*SIDE NOTE. You have to try one of these sandwiches from an actual bodega. They hit different.*

3. The Characters

Everyone in this film killed it *Yes I know Cassandra is different but I don't really care. Never was a huge fan of the character.* My only gripe is I wanted more of them. I'd gladly take an additional 20 minutes to the movie just to have more backstory. From no nonsense kick ass Canary; to F-Bomb ever other word Roman; to F***in creep Victor that gets off on peeling faces; to punch drunk Montoya; to Trigger happy Huntress; to thieving ass Cass; to Bat s*** crazy Harley. I loved it from start to finish!

Now I wanna watch this movie again. Thanks for reading! What did you think of Birds of Prey?
