The Batman Trailer 2 Favorite Shots + Reaction
What's going on y'all!
DC Fandome is over and if you followed the entire event, the highlight was The Batman Trailer 2. WOW! What a f***in Trailer! Before I get into my favorite shots, here's my reaction!
As I always do, lets get into these frames!
This opening shot sets the tone. Small choices like lining a window with blue neon light make such an impression on the viewer. If there was no blue light, this scene would feel completely different. With it present, you know we're in for a dark neo noir story with this frame alone.
C'mon. This looks like something ripped right from a comic book. Leaving behind such an obvious sign after "turning himself in," already lets us know how twisted the Riddler's plan is going to be. Also love the color choice of making the cup white, when everything in the scene is a darker tone; And the little green accent there is a nice touch.
I love that this really isn't some expensively elaborate custom light Bruce had created for Gordon. It's just a regular spotlight that was vandalized to create the look of a bat to signal him. Lets us know that Batman is still in his early days. Never seen it done like this in any live action Batman film.
Just soaking in the excellent cinematography for this iconic 'Gordon looking up next to the bat signal,' shot. Every corner of the frame is used to tell a story. Gotham is given an identity in one single shot. That's great filmmaking.
If these shots are actually in sequence according to the movie, I really love how the look on his face isn't particularly happy (Not that any Batman has ever just smiled). To me, he looks pretty fed up & I assume this is what leads to that group of people he beats down later.
This film is going to be filled to the gills with Batman iconography. That's one of my biggest gripes with The Dark Knight trilogy. There wasn't enough of those shots in any of those live action Batman movies, but that ain't a thing here.
Walks out from the darkness without a need for ambush. I wonder what the outcome of this scene is going to be. I also wonder how strong is that armor to allow him to walk through gunfire? I mean, that has to be some strong s***. Also dig how much his suit blends but still stands out in the dark. I think making his suit more charcoal grey than black, was a smart decision to make him stand out at night.
Can't have Batman live action film without an interrogation scene! This looks to be just as tense as all the scenes that have come before it.
GORGEOUS shot. You have to use the magic hour to your advantage if it's there & what better character to use for a silhouette shot than Batman with his cape flapping? This is a literal painting & i want it on my wall.
A great shot of Mr. Cobblepot overlooking what I'm sure he thinks is, "His city." Amazing what you can do with such a minuet shot if you block the scene accordingly. This is where the pre-viz and storyboarding come in handy most.
Bruce putting the riddles together in order to figure out what Edward's plan is. Se7en is thrown around a lot in regards to the vibe and I'm not surprised. Especially having a sequence like this. We can tell whatever the Riddler has against him, these messages make it clear that it's personal. Great way to frame the shot as well. Taking advantage of the entire space surrounding Bruce.
Love the bad wig lol It's so Selina for her to have a disguise that is so opposite of the person she is. Especially in what looks like a club setting. I also love how each side of the shot is a different color because it speaks to her duality in this sequence.
This shot was released earlier this week but yet in still, phenomenal shot nonetheless. What I'm thinking they did was shoot Rob on a green screen and replaced it with a real shot of the city from the same position. Or it could be practical with vfx added for sunlight.
I literally flipped my s*** at this. Walking through the dark and the only thing lighting the scene is gunfire, which he DOESN'T even dodge. His armor is strong enough to eat machine gun bullets. That's INSANE! I really wonder how they lit this scene because I can't see where any other light is emanating from besides the weapons.
We've seen this shot before but It's one of the most Batman things I've ever seen on screen.
The Batmobile in full on action tearing up the streets of Gotham. I really dig this car and find it to be more incognito than a tank. Every time this yellow tint is used, it reminds me of one of the Year one covers, which I think was no mistake.
One of the most comic book panel Batman shots caught on film. This movie is oozing with panel to frame shots that all looked torn out of a graphic novel. The key to getting these images, is knowing how long to hold a shot, which is easier said than done. You have to provide enough time for the viewer to soak in the shot, but also not overdue it.
I love the grounded nature of this movie. This would be so terrifying to see on the local news and that's just what it's purpose is. It's already one thing to be focused on a serial killer. It's a whole other layer when the guy is wearing a mask that looks like this.
I'm guessing he's searching underground for a clue but I have no idea who the people swarming in behind him are. Such a beautiful frame and a way to amp up the danger soaking the scene in red lighting. Certain colors are instantly related to particular emotions so if you do have the opportunity to light a scene with a color, go for it.
Man the Riddler is not joking with Batman. A lot of white gloves at the crime scene and I can't help but relate it to a white collar crime, which equates to a crime of fraud, scams, & public corruption. All of which it seems He's accusing Batman of. Or it could just be a color choice to make the scene pop more lol.
It's all in the eyes. What better way to show someone's emotional state by closing in on their eyes. It also connects the audience directly to the character and their emotion when the focus is there. This looks like something crucial went down.
The look of surprise on both of their faces really has me wondering what the hell is going to happen. Clearly, Bruce isn't dying so I really wonder where this look of shock derives from. Zoe is literally the most perfect Catwoman ever. I've always kind of seen her as Selina lowkey, so I'm happy she was chosen. Andi is gonna kill it. No question at all.
INCREDIBLE stunt work. It could be some sort of VFX but it doesn't really look that way to me. Excellent shot to have the camera rigged to the side of the car. Especially that shot in the side mirror! This couldn't have been easy to capture in a moving vehicle but gotdamn it, they got it.
ICONIC! ICONIC! Batman literally in Bat mode looking like he's upside down as he heads towards Oswalt. Again, another shot that can only turn out great if you hold the shot long enough for the audience to feel every second. Slow motion also helps push that feeling across.
WHEW this is easily one of the best trailers I've ever seen in my life. Am I biased because I'm a batman stan? Damn right! This is my most anticipated film of 2022 & I highly doubt it will be beaten. We need more of the comic book films that don't mind getting dirty, grimey, & taking themselves seriously. I'm IN LOVE & will be in the theater early as possible.
Thanks for Reading! Peace!
