We Need to Talk About Werwulf...

 What's Good Everyone.

If you didn't know, Robert Eggers "Werwulf" released yesterday & with that being my most anticipated film of the year, it did NOT disappoint. As usual, I'm gonna take you through my favorite shots but first, here's my trailer reaction in case you haven't seen it.

Now let's get into the magnificent shots!
CUT TO:

It's only right to start a trailer about werewolves with an ominous shot of a foggy, dark, moon. Having it in full grayscale adds so much to the vibe!

CUT TO:

In this one shot, you can tell this character has been through ALOT. The way the shot is lit, the implication of someone living in the shadows is evident.

CUT TO:

I have no idea who this guy is, but he just looks "wrong". The cloak makes his looks like some sort of evil elf from a twisted fairytale and the lush background adds to the fantastical nature of it all. Also, the image is deeply desaturated, to the point I didn't realize there was color until a second watch.

CUT TO:

This stone-built cave again, pushes the feel of a twisted fairytale. I imagine this is something the witch from Hansel & Gretel would take for shelter.

CUT TO:

This shot feels like it was ripped straight from the ending of "The Witch". Again, no gotdamn idea what is happening but there are clues that can send your imagination in a particular direction. If I'm not mistaken, the way the body is positioned, has meaning. I've seen it somewhere, but I can't remember. It's also very symbolic for him to be holding what looks like, a pitchfork.

CUT TO:

This is nightmare fuel. The kid looks like he's being possessed & the type of movement his body is doing always gives me chills. It so unhuman I can't wait to see how it ends up panning out because This is some sick s*** & I love it! I love the way it's framed as well, with the hands reaching out like they're coming from the depths of hell! I'd guess that's the intention with the goat skull on the left.

CUT TO:

You cannot tell me this shot doesn't look like an image in an old book from the medieval times. A masterclass in framing, wardrobe, & set design.

CUT TO:

I'm a little biased here because this shot reminds me of opening of Zack Snyder's Justice League when Batman goes to Iceland. That full 1.43 frame allows for all of the rolling green hills & rumbling clouds to be captured in painting like image.

CUT TO:

A great shot of William Dafoe's character alongside his wolf hunting crew in a snowy backdrop. The custom and set design are truly doing so much heavy lifting for the visual prowess of this movie. Damn near every frame looks awesome because of it.

CUT TO:

Nothing says, "You shouldn't be here," like hanging corpse lol. I love the focus on how strange a sight this would be if you saw it in person, which is how it's shot.

CUT TO:

The writing on the wall, literally. There's definitely some sort of tie between lycanthropy & something demonic here. I like that because I've never really seen a werewolf movie go down the route of being mythological like this.

CUT TO:

I think this is our first look of a partially transformed werewolf. Those eyes give that away and I am so curious about what goes down here. I know it's going to be terror filled with music building to her entrance. Ah! I can't wait.

CUT TO:

This shot reminds me of the Count Orlock show with the shadow of his hand spreading across London. This is plan ole' scary and the gray scale adds to that fear.

CUT TO:

This shot is pretty terrifying. When I first saw it, I was thinking, "Is that what I think it is?" & I think it is. That's a wolf! Which seems normal until you take a realize this is a whole human spreading their arms along the fur... That's a BIG A** wolf!

CUT TO:

This is the money shot of the trailer & the scene I look forward to the most. This shot is great because of all the subtleties that make the large picture. The close up to show the change in eyes, the dramatic slow motion, the disgusting teeth, and saliva that bring the beast to life!  This werewolf transformation is going to be brutally next level & mark my words, it will be the best since American Werewolf in London!

CUT TO:

So, those are my favorite shots from the trailer! I had to do a post about this because it's my most anticipated film of 2026 & it will not disappoint. I feel this will be Egger's magnum opus without doubt. That's all I got, & I'd like to thank you for reading! Until next time, Peace!
